Service Description
Prerequisites: None! Mondays, 19:00-21:30, July 13-August 17 Class Show: Thursday August 20 This course will take you through every stage of sketch writing, from finding ideas to a performance- or production-ready draft. You’ll learn how to mine your personal life, popular culture and society at large for material, how to write catchy premises and find the comedic game of your sketch, and how to refine your work into a polished final draft. In addition to sharing our writing and giving feedback, we will use improvisation techniques and exercises to generate ideas, workshop premises and create hilarious characters. These techniques turn writing into a process of play and discovery, so you’ll never have to fear the blank page again. You will leave with one or more finished sketches, ideas for many more, and probably some new friends! In the end-of-class show, you’ll get to present your favourite sketch in a “table read” for invited friends and family. Please note that to benefit the most from this course you'll need to spend time writing material between classes. We can't wait to laugh and learn with you! Sebastian Moitzheim is a writer, improviser and stand-up. He is a graduate of ImprovWorks and Comedy Café Berlin. He has performed with THD and The Buckingham and created the semi-improvised late-night show “This is happening…tonight!” as well as THD’s narrative improv format “Judgment City”. Currently he writes material for ImprovWorks’ “Challenge Accepted”.
