Prerequisites: None! Sundays, 13:00-15:30, August 30-October 18 Dungeons & Dragons is the world's most popular tabletop role-playing game, and the progenitor of the genre. It can also be a powerful tool for collective storytelling. However, it can appear intimidatingly complex for new players. And the culture around DnD hasn't always been as welcoming to diverse demographics as it should have been. In DnD, a group of players goes on an imaginary adventure together. One player is the Dungeon Master: they set the scene, act as the monsters and non-player characters, serve as a referee for the rules, and guide the pacing of the shared story. The other players are Player Characters, exploring the world and deciding together how to act within it. In this course, you'll learn everything you need to make DnD yours. We'll learn mostly by doing, so that the rules become intuitive. You'll leave being able to play as both Player Character and Dungeon Master. More importantly, you'll: - Become a better cooperative storyteller, knowing how to balance serving the group with honouring your own ideas. - Have the tools to create and inhabit deep, interesting characters who can grow through relationships. - Have loads of inspiration for world-building. - Know how to make DnD a safer space for you and your fellow players. - Be able to make DnD easy for brand-new players. You're also likely to leave with a bunch of new friends with whom to play! Included in the course are digital copies of the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual. About the teacher: Andrew Rae (he/him) has been playing Dungeons & Dragons since 1982. He has six years' experience teaching Improv and creating safer theater spaces.
