Service Description
Prerequisites: Intermediate improv exeperience Saturdays, 10:00-12:30, January 9-February 20, March 6 (no class February 27) Have you ever found yourself reading an improv book and thinking, "This sounds great, but shouldn’t I be doing this instead of just reading about it?" The Improviser's Book Club is a course for improv nerds who love reading and want to learn even more about improv, but who don’t want to leave all that knowledge on the page. Over eight weeks, we'll work our way through The Improviser's Way: A Longform Workbook by Katy Schutte as a group. Each week, participants will read an assigned section of the book before class. Together, we'll discuss its key ideas, experiment with the exercises, and discover how to apply what we've learned on stage. This course is designed for improvisers with some previous experience who want to deepen their practice, try new techniques, and connect with fellow improv nerds in a collaborative, supportive environment. Important: Participants will need to purchase their own copy of The Improviser's Way: A Longform Workbook by Katy Schutte. You can find it on Amazon or through Dussmann. Kay Marie Rommel is an American actress, director, and teacher based in Berlin. She holds a BFA in Acting from Otterbein University (USA) and an MA in Acting Pedagogy from GITIS (Moscow, Russia). Having worked in theatre across the United States, Russia, and Germany, she brings a unique international perspective to her teaching, drawing on knowledge acquired from different cultures and theatrical traditions. Her approach combines improvisation, text analysis, and collaborative methods to encourage individual creativity throughout the artistic process. We can’t wait to laugh and learn with you!
