Improv Level 2: Narrative
Service Description
Prerequisites: Presence & Spontaneity or another Introductory Improv course. Sundays, 16:00-18:30, August 25-October 13 Class Show: October 13, 20:00 When we're improvising, we're acting, making up a story and directing, collaboratively, all at the same time. This Level 2 class will provide a deep dive into the "story" part of improvising. How do we infuse our scenes with good stories, on the spot? We'll be working on surfacing the comedic narratives we all already know, at least subconsciously, and applying them on stage, in real-time. We'll learn how to identify which character's story it is, what kind of story we're telling, how to apply stakes, and how to reach satisfying endings. Together, we’ll create a conscious and supportive space where we’ll focus on telling coherent, recognizable comedic narratives collaboratively, in real-time, without a script. Over 8 classes, we’ll explore Narrative through a combination of short-form game work and longer scene work. The concepts of presence, agreement, trust, commitment and support are reinforced through large and small group exercises. In the end-of-class show, you’ll get to show off all you’ve learned to an invited audience of family and friends. This course is a prerequisite for Level 3 classes. We can't wait to laugh and learn with you!
